"One night in Bangkok with karaoke cheers for Carsten

Carsten Jørgensen, winner of Tuesday's PWT race in Bangkok, turns 30 years today – cheered by his fellow competitors already in the early hours. Inspired by the hosts of the Thailand Orienteering Association, the elite orienteers started the celebrations in a karaoke bar.

At an enjoyable Park World Tour race banquet, the Chairman of the new Orienteering Association, Lieutenant General Kanit Wasakari of the Royal Thai Army was first to grab the microphone, honouring the international orienteering guests with a song.

He was followed by the event sponsor, Managing Director Somsak Chataweesak of Crocodile International, who also helped the PWT girls choir out when finally responding to the hosts by performing "On Top Of The World".

Staff and Valstad lead singers
Continuing the singing lessons in a karaoke bar, the world stars celebrated Carsten Jørgensen's birthday in a great spirit. World Champion Bjørnar Valstad, disqualified after forgetting one control in Tuesday's race, proved to be recovering from this debacle, now acting as one of the lead singers together with partner Hanne Staff.

While Staff has a tough battle with Reeta Kolkkala for the PWT 2000 title, Yuri Omeltchenko already seems to be preparing for receiving the first prize. The Ukrainian made two speeches at the banquet in Bangkok - one in English, one in Thai.

Embassy reception next
The Royal Embassy of Sweden will host a special reception for the Park World Tour runners on Wednesday night, to commemorate the first world class orienteering race in Thailand.
On Thursday morning, the elite orienteers take off towards China, with the last two events of the season in Shanghai on Saturday and in Kunming next Tuesday, 31 October.
